Cloud Expo Frankfurt 2023: an unstoppable Force

Since it was quite a success at the Cloudfest in Rust last March, we decided to keep our Star Wars Roadshow going. And so, visitors of the Frankfurt version of the yearly #1 internet infrastructure event in Europe could also try to win the huge Millennium Falcon or one of the other Lego sets. It drew a lot of attention to our Ynvolve booth.

Of course, the event is an excellent spot for our sales reps to network and talk business with our (future) clients. Still, seeing people eagerly lining up in front of our booth, we felt our server assembly contest added some value to the atmosphere, as did our stroopwafels.

The idea was as simple as it was complicated: assemble this server as fast as possible. Good luck, and may the Force be with you. The quickest one to put in the ram, storage, power supply, CPU, and heat sinks leaves Cloud Expo with a Millennium Falcon. We allowed everyone a chance once a day, which resulted in many people coming back the other day to try again or bringing to the booth their IT people and engineers to have a go.

The competition started, people gathered around our booth, driven by curiosity and the desire to win one of the Lego sets. Cameras flashed, films were made, people applauded, and in an epic showdown of speed and skill, the server assembly contest at Cloud Expo Frankfurt crowned David Schuler as the undisputed champion. It took the man only 52.69 seconds to assemble the server, which resulted in him taking home the grand prize – and world fame. Jeroen Burks swooped in with 53.28 seconds, earning an impressive second place, while Tural Rahimli rocked the contest with 55.91 seconds, clinching the third spot.

And the saga continues: we are already gearing up for Cloud Expo Paris in November. You bring your skills; we will get fresh stroopwafels, stripped-down servers, and new Legos. See you there!
